WATERLASE - LASER DENTISTRY

Our laser technique uses a patented combination of laser energy and water – a process called Hydro-Photonics – to perform a wide range of dental procedures on teeth, gum and bone. By using the Laser, we typically use fewer shots and less anesthesia to provide a more comfortable dental experience.

YOUR COMFORT
Our Laser cuts hard and soft tissue without heat, vibration and pressure which are the primary causes of pain associated with the use of the traditional dental drill. This usually means we can perform your procedure with fewer shots and less anaesthesia which can also mean we are able to perform more work in a shorter period of time than before. This will help you avoid having to make multiple appointments with us, which is great news for anyone with a hectic schedule.

REDUCED TRAUMA
Traditional high speed dental drills can cause hairline fractures in teeth that can eventually lead to future dental problems. The gentle action of our Waterlase Laser reduces damage to healthy portions of the tooth, minimizing trauma. Due to its gentle cutting action and coagulating capabilities of the Waterlase Laser, many procedures on gums and other soft tissues can be performed with little or no bleeding and hence less post-operative swelling.

ACCURACY and PRECISION
Our Waterlase Laser enables our dentist to remove decay in tooth enamel – the hardest substance in the human body! – while leaving the surrounding tooth unaffected. Waterlase cavity preparations increase bond strength of tooth-coloured restorations, for longer lasting fillings.

In the hands of our highly trained dentist, all Laser treatments will be provided to you with the best possible care and dental experience.

ZOOM! TEETH WHITENING
We currently use the latest ZOOM! 2 whitening system. It is a scientifically advanced tooth whitening procedure. It is safe and very effective.

before&After

Three options are available.

TAKE-HOME KIT
Our Take-Home Kit consists of custom made trays which fit exactly over your teeth, whitening gels and a set of instructions. Depending on the degree of whitening you want to achieve, it can take approx. 7-10 days of use before the desired shade is reached. This option is recommended for people who want to whiten their teeth at their own convenience and location.

IN-OFFICE PROCEDURE
This procedure takes approx two hours at our surgery where on departure, your teeth will be dramatically whiter. This is the perfect choice for the busy individual wanting immediate results. The procedure is simple, it begins with a short preparation to cover and protect your lips and gums, leaving only your teeth exposed. Whitening gel is then carefully applied, this gel has been carefully designed to be used with a special light. Together they work gently to penetrate your teeth, breaking up stains and discolouration. With proper care, your smile will sparkle for years.

COMPLETE ZOOM! PACKAGE
This package involves both the In-Office treatment and Take-Home Kit. This is believed to give the best result. Please ask one of our friendly staff to explain the whole procedure. Your teeth however will never go back to your original shade after the Zoom whitening process!
Teeth whitening is a well established procedure in cosmetic dentistry. Hydrogen Peroxide, the active agent in Zoom! has been safely used for many years in the treatment of gums and other oral soft tissue. The whitening process is effective on most discoloured teeth. Darker stains, such as those caused by antibiotics, are more difficult to whiten. The shade of whiteness will vary from individual to individual, depending on the original shade and structure of the teeth.

For more information on the product and the procedures involved as well as informative videos and testimonials,
please visit the ZOOM! website HERE.

Please note this is an American product and therefore some of the promotions advertised do not apply here in New Zealand

IMPLANTS

Implants are man-made replacements for the tooth roots that have been lost; they behave and act like real roots – even bonding naturally with the jawbone. A new ceramic tooth or bridge is then fixed on top of the implants to complete the restoration.
With dental implants, you no longer have to be embarrassed or worried about your teeth. In fact, new teeth can transform your smile and make you feel more confident improving your looks.

·
Once the procedure is completed, you will have new, fully functioning teeth that are indistinguishable from your real teeth.
· Implants are very stable and secure so you can comfortably and confidently eat all your favourite foods.
· Tooth loss can cause your jawbone to shrink and make you look older; implants can help by preventing this process.
· Dental Implants are a long-term solution, often lasting for life.

   MINI IMPLANTS
For Dentures

If you have dentures, do you experience any of the following?

· Are you unable to eat what you like?
· Does food get trapped under your dentures?
· Do your dentures shift, tilt and move?
· Are you afraid to smile?

Now you can put these uncomfortable difficulties of dentures behind you with Mini Dental Implants.

A Mini Dental Implant (MDI) is comprised of two-components: an ultra-small 1.8mm titanium alloy implant screw that acts like the root of a natural tooth and a retaining fixture that is built into the base of your denture.

The head of the implant screw is shaped like a ball, and the retaining fixture, which contains a rubber O-ring, acts like a socket. The O-ring snaps over the ball when the denture is seated and holds the denture at a pre-determined level of force.

The denture rests gently on the gum tissue.

MDIs enable a very good option for patients who are unable to withstand conventional implant surgery, or they don’t have enough bone available.

ROOT CANAL TREATMENT

WHY IS THIS TREATMENT NECESSARY?
Inside a tooth is a fine space called the root canal, this canal contains the dental pulp which is made up of nerves and blood vessels. If the dental pulp becomes diseased or dies, a toothache or an abscess may occur. In the past, these problem teeth resulted in only one option – an extraction, however now we can offer you root canal treatment to help preserve and retain such teeth.

A Root Canal Treatment is needed for the relief of pain and also to keep the tooth. A number of conditions can lead to dental pulp damage.

· Decay
· Deep Fillings
· Trauma
· Tooth Fracture
· Infection

Sometimes no apparent cause can be determined.

The benefits of a root canal treatment may include:

· Preservation of the involved existing tooth.
· Avoidance of restorative replacement with a bridge, implant or denture.
· Preservation of the underlying bone support, providing a stronger abutment tooth for a bridge or partial if other teeth are missing.
· Elimination of pain.

RESTORATION OF TOOTH FOLLOWING ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
It is very important that any restoration placed onto a tooth that has had a root canal treatment, adequately seals the root filling from infection by bacteria from the mouth and provides strong support for continued daily use. Teeth that have had a root canal treatment are weaker and often need large fillings. It is highly recommended in most cases to have a crown.
